The synopsis for the upcoming live-action Resident Evil Netflix Original series has leaked online. It was apparently uploaded by mistake to the Netflix Media Center where it was spotted and promptly leaked to the public.
This confirms rumors of a Netflix adaptation of the popular video game series. The synopsis reads:
“The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, twenty-six years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak.”
Resident Evil is one of the longest-running video game franchises out there. Since 1996 around two dozen games have been released in the series, including last year’s excellent Resident Evil 2 Remake, one of the best games of 2019. In 2017, Capcom released Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, a first-person (instead of third-person) entry in the series that was also excellent and can be played in VR.
Adaptations of the video game series include six films from director Paul W.S. Anderson starring his wife, Milla Jovovich. The film series has grossed over $1 billion. Four animated films have also been released, as well as books and comic books.
Netflix’s live-action TV series will be the first TV adaptation of the Resident Evil games. There’s still no word on when it’s coming to Netflix but we should hear more soon. Presumably the synopsis was uploaded because a reveal is forthcoming and somebody simply jumped the gun.
