Imagine finally beating writer's block, only to discover the killer you created might actually be real.
That's the nightmare at the center of Big Baby, a new psychological horror thriller from writer and director Spider One, and following its festival debut in 2025, the film is officially available digitally on VOD today, August 7.
And yes, the killer is a giant man wearing a baby mask and onesie.
Because apparently regular writer's block wasn't terrifying enough.
Big Baby follows Adam Lewis, a successful horror screenwriter struggling to find inspiration for his latest script. That changes after one particularly graphic nightmare introduces him to a hulking masked killer known as Big Baby.
In the nightmare, Big Baby brutally murders Adam's girlfriend Kate with an axe.
Horrifying? Absolutely.
But Adam is a horror writer, so naturally his next thought is basically, "Wait... I can use this."
The nightmare gives Adam exactly the inspiration he's been searching for, and he begins pouring himself into a new screenplay built around his terrifying creation. His writing starts flowing again, his career appears to be moving in the right direction, and things between Adam and Kate seem better than ever.
There's just one tiny problem.
Big Baby starts showing up in real life.
When Fiction Starts Fighting Back
As Adam becomes increasingly consumed by his screenplay, the boundary between what he's writing and what's actually happening around him begins to collapse.
Big Baby isn't confined to the page anymore. The masked killer begins tormenting and murdering victims, while characters from Adam's own screenplay start appearing and pleading with him for their lives.
That's where the premise gets especially interesting.
Adam slowly realizes that he may actually control what happens to these characters through his writing. Suddenly he's not simply an author deciding where a fictional story goes. The decisions he makes on the page appear to have very real consequences.
And having that kind of power doesn't exactly do wonders for his mental state.
Fear, control, and obsession begin consuming Adam as he sinks further into the world he's created. Eventually even Kate becomes terrified of the man her boyfriend is turning into.
So while Big Baby definitely has the ingredients of a slasher, including an axe-wielding masked killer with one hell of a visual identity, there's a psychological horror story happening underneath it.
What happens to a writer when the fictional world they're controlling starts pushing back?
And maybe more importantly...

From the Festival Circuit to VOD
Big Baby previously screened on the festival circuit in late 2025, but today marks the film's wider digital VOD release, making it much easier for horror fans to finally check it out at home.
The film is written and directed by Spider One and stars Brandon Scott, Krsy Fox, and Sierra McCormick, with Cher serving as an executive producer.
Clocking in at approximately 83 minutes, the film combines psychological horror with supernatural elements and an old-fashioned masked slasher, wrapped inside a story about creativity becoming dangerously obsessive.
And I have to admit, Big Baby himself is one of those horror villains you aren't going to easily mistake for somebody else.
A huge guy in a onesie and creepy baby mask coming toward you with an axe?
Yeah.
