Maya survived The Strangers once. Apparently, that only made them want her more.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 makes its HBO Max streaming premiere today, August 7, bringing the masked killers home for another round with the one victim they failed to finish.
Picking up after the events of The Strangers: Chapter 1, the sequel finds Maya, played once again by Madelaine Petsch, alive after surviving the brutal attack that nearly killed her. Unfortunately, The Strangers discover she survived too, and they're coming back specifically to finish what they started.
This time, the nightmare isn't confined to one house. Maya finds herself stranded in a small town with nowhere to run and very few people she can trust, while the three masked psychopaths relentlessly hunt her down. Anyone unfortunate enough to get between them and Maya is simply another potential victim.
That shift gives Chapter 2 a different kind of energy from the traditional home-invasion setup associated with The Strangers. Maya already knows what's hunting her. Now the attack has become a prolonged fight for survival, forcing her to confront the killers instead of simply trying to make it through the night.
And The Strangers haven't suddenly developed some elaborate motivation. That senseless violence remains part of what makes them disturbing. They started something, Maya survived, and apparently that's reason enough to keep killing.
Directed by Renny Harlin, The Strangers: Chapter 2 is the second installment in the trilogy that began with 2024's The Strangers: Chapter 1 and the fourth movie overall in The Strangers franchise. The film also stars Gabriel Basso, Froy Gutierrez, Ema Horvath, and Ella Bruccoleri.
Running approximately 1 hour and 38 minutes and rated R, the sequel originally arrived in theaters in September 2025. Now, nearly a year later, horror fans who missed Maya's second encounter with The Strangers can finally catch it as part of its streaming premiere.
